Sigmatek is joining the force and starting to produce Blu-ray players with it's newest player, the SBR-1000. Listing at only $364, it'll be the cheapest Blu-ray player, but for now, it's only in Europe. Shouldn't be long before it hits the floors here in the U.S.

As a huge blu-ray fan, Apple is going to have to ship a next-gen disc drive at some point soon, and Macworld 2008 is as good a place as any. Apple also has a friendly history with Sony, and Blu-ray happy Disney. Well, will see here in a few weeks, eh?

LightScribe drives are special drives that laser etch text and graphics onto special LightScribe discs (special CDs and DVDs). While in labelling mode it pretty much operates like a CD-ROM Drive in reverse, using a laser to burn the image onto the 'top side' of the disc.
I have one of these and they work wonderfully. They add a little extra to your media.
LightScribe released a free software download for its devices that apparently vastly increases the already pretty good image quality (see above).

Sony unveiled its HES-V1000 Home Media Server today.
This ain't no cute little PC.
Sony claims that this is an innovative solution for organizing your movies, music and photos.
The server features a full Hi-Def 1080p 200 disc Blu-Ray/DVD/CD changer (wow?!) and a 500 gig hard drive. 500 gigs stores about 137 hours of video, 40,000 songs or 20,000 photos.
The HEX-V1000 can stream music throughout your home using a wireless music device and Sonys DLNA compatible wireless devices (like your PS3 or Vaio notebook).
Available in October this machine will cost you only about $3500

Plextor will soon be shipping the Plexeraser, which is a new DVD/CD combo. Its only function is the destroy the data stocked on the DVD/CD. Plextor says it will only take 6 minutes to completely erase ALL data on a DVD or a CD. 6 minutes in kind of long when the police or secret service come knocking!

Hey, even the disc is blue! Pioneer has announced that their line of Blu-ray players, which were originally slated for a May release, will be delayed until sometime "this autumn." The company didn't officially announce exactly caused the delay, but there is no doubt it may have had something to do with the serious lack of Blu-Ray content.
