Obviously the LCD monitor market is very hot. Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) has decided to change something up. They’re going to release an 18.4-inch display. The new size will feature 1366x768 resolution, a 16:9 aspect ratio, contrast ratio of 1000:1, and a 5ms response time. The benefit of this new size is that the cost will be lower. The first company to bite is Acer, which will be releasing something in Europe in the second half of 2008.

Toshiba has recently released a 22-inch monitor that has 4 times as many pixels as just about every other monitor in its class. Yeah, that’s right, were talking like 3,840x2,400 pixels for a WGUXGA display. Unfortunately though, the specs go down from there: 300:1 contrast, 235cd/m2 brightness, and a 120 degrees top/bottom and 100 degree left/right viewing angle. You'll need a dedicated PCI graphics card to drive the resolution over the monitor's single DVI input. Its going to cost you $17,500, oh, and Toshiba will sell you a PCI graphics card for an additional $3,000. How nice.

Samsung's latest 19-inch monitor is about as ho hum as they come, but it's got a nice stylistic flair. The SyncMaster 931 BW sports a 16:10 wide screen panel, WXGA+ (1,440x900) resolution, a 2,000:1 contrast ration, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 170-degree viewing angle, and a lightning quick two-millisecond response time. You'll also find an HDCP-compliant DVI port, and a VGA input, but while pricing doesn't seem to be available yet, this monitor will be hitting the Japanese market later next month.

Samsung has just announced the Syncmaster 245T. The 24-inch LCD features picture in picture, picture by picture, and motion picture acceleration to display images at the best quality. It comes with HDMI and S-Video connections and also has HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection). Looks like a ton of great features, but it will cost you about $1100!

Our sister-site ThinkComputers got a chance to check out another LCD this week. From the review, “LCD monitors are becoming ever more popular, especially widescreens. A few years ago it was uncommon to see someone at a LAN party with an LCD monitor. Now you can find that most people will bring their widescreen LCD monitor because it's a whole heck of a lot lighter than a CRT and most of the time the display is a lot better. Let's take a look to see how the Acer AL2002W widescreen monitor will stand up to the performance expected of gaming at LAN parties.” Be sure to check out the review

I like this. I like this a lot.
Dell is showcasing their 20 inch SP2008WPF monitor.
Not only does it look pretty but it has a built in 2.0 megapixel camera and a built in microphone to make your videoconferencing that much easier.
With VGA ad DVI inputs and USB ports she pumps out a crisp image at 1680x1050.
The icing on the top of this cake is that the SP2008WPF will cost only $289
